9/16" Bore clutch for west bend 580

Post by John withers » Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:08 pm

Does anyone know of a source for a 9/16" bore clutch?
There are a couple of used ones on eBay right now but they are starting at $49.95
Does that seems like allot for a used clutch?
My other thought is that maybe I could buy a new 5/8" bore clutch and shim
out the drive shaft to make it fit. Any ideas?
I am in the process of putting back together my goKart 400 'C'.
Thanks, John

Vince Hughes in the parts & resourses section.

I have also bored out a McCulloch hub & rekeyed it and made it work on a 580 WB.

Jim Donovan at Maxtorque makes clutches for all West Bends.

I have bought three different styles from him:
- 9/16" straight for 580/700
- 9/16" stepped to 5/8 for 610/820 kart engines
- 3/4" straight fgor 820 industrial/kart engines

He is an avid support of vintage karting.

Contact him at jim@maxtorque.com

Prices are not "cheap", but neither are they expensive.

If you are serious about actually driving your vintage kart, this is the one component that gets the most abuse (even more than brakes), and this is probably the best way to go.
