Brown Carburetor Questions

Post by Jeff Troy » Thu May 14, 2009 3:40 pm

Hi, Guys,

Getting into the carburetors on my Homelite KL and KR 92's, I've come to realize that they are Brown 1-C5 carbs, and not Tillies.

Does anyone know if there is a Tillotson crossover, or if parts are available anywhere for the Brown 1-C5? I'd like to find three or four full rebuild kits.

Thanks and warmest regards,
Jeff Troy

Jeff,
i don't have parts but i have two complete carbs i'd sell for a fair offer.
that doesn't mean ten bucks each. :D
more interesting to you i do have the service manual that i got when i bought the milk crate of stuff.
if i can figure it out i'll either send you an attachment or post here so you get a copy.
i think they're neat in that they were made right here in Ct.

Jeff, Do you know about the connection between Brown and Blitz? I think Wes Shoemaker told me the story or maybe it was Gary E? Tillotson sued Brown for some kind of patent infringement and won the case. Tillotson owned the patent for that type of carb. Brown saw that the outlook for them prevailing wasn't good so they quickly sold the Blitz Kart division before the trial to Wes and he had to take all the tooling, unfinished karts, new karts, tubing, everything and move it to his Ford, PA facility. Wes then produced them as Outlaw Karts. It may be a long shot but check with Gary about Brown carb stuff. Tom

Hi, Dave and Tom,

Dave -- I'd prefer to find rebuild kits, as they would let me keep the engines as they came. If I strike out, snagging a couple of good carbs from you would be fine -- but wouldn't yours also need kits after so many years, or do you have a source?

Tom -- Know about the Blitz to Outlaw thing, but not the specifics. Always fun to watch people screw each other over. Randal's pickup has a sticker that reads, "Mean People Suck." I hate stickers but I like that thought.

Check with "Gary" meaning Gary Emilio? Thanks, my friend.

Warmest...
