Re: Mean Machine ?
Did the party you bought the stuff from say the engines were actually used on that kart? Something doesn't add up... one engine has a belt drive pulley that can only be used with an axle clutch but the kart appears to have standard Azusa sprocket hubs. The fuel tanks have the common modification for overhead pipes so the motors would fit on the chassis but I'm betting they were pulled off and used on some other chassis at some point. The guys that know this chassis may know the answer to the question.... is there room for axle clutches on the old Rupp chassis??? They would have to be some very early version of a Hegar or Bystrom to be period correct.

Hi Steve
I couldn't say one way or the other.I did not get a chance to talk to the owner. There are a few clutch parts in a flat that came along with it that look to be engine clutches.

Re: Mean Machine ?
the mean machine will fit and axle clutch barely.
but there's no room for a belt.
axle clutch with chain drive is what mine has currently.
will probably be swapping it for oil clutches to get it more historically correct.
the chassis is no cheap item either.
at Barnsville this year there was one in similar condition i think for $1400.
didn't last the weekend before it was sold.
usually price like that on a typical chassis and the frame goes home with owner.

Re: Mean Machine ?
gotta correct myself.
went by kart just now and noticed that the axle clutch is on with a non stock engine mount.
with the correct engine mounts i seriously doubt an axle clutch has any room.

Re: Mean Machine ?
I can't see anyway you could get axle clutches on with the factory supplied engine mounts... You can get them on Series K Foreigns... Robert Stanton told the trick setup on the Series Ks was Horstman engine clutches and Bystrom axle clutches together...

Re: Mean Machine ?
Thanks Dave and Virgil
The two in the picture I have found out that they were not on this machine, but was also told they were Mickey Rupps. I'm not claiming that because I have no proof ,but was just letting everyone know what was said when purchased. I have three other B-Bombs also and two of those were mounted on this machine and the third was not.Again thanks for the info.
Thanks again Doug
