Rigid honing .... video

Post by Jeff Campbell » Mon Oct 29, 2012 3:44 pm

... this is a video I shot while honing the MC8 block I ran at TBO this year ... I thought it would be educational for anyone who is not familiar with what a rigid hone is. A rigid hone is a precision tool which can correct a cylinder to a true round / cylindrical shape, as opposed to a spring type deglazing hone which only follows the existing shape of a cylinder (these are the hones most people are familiar with). The hand held drill mounted rigid hone in the video is probably the cheapest type of rigid hone, there are much more sophisticated standalone machines that are much more precise (and much more expensive).

Thanks Jeff. I have heard about honing a cylinder but never seen it done. I found your video very interesting. Thanks.
