Steve,

Reading your last post, I forgot to mention that I'm using a GEM box muffler with our engine.
If you're using a pipe, I'll bet you'll need more fuel!

Another thing that may have affected the way the engine runs is the amount of Ethanol that is now in our fuels! When this engine was built (1974), the gasoline available did not have ANY Alcohol fuel added and was probably containing some lead!

Let me know how your engine runs when you get it tweaked. ;)

Hey Steve,
My first kart was a 66-68 Lancer with a Mc49E back around 71 or 72. i ran in the rookie class using Hartman oil clutch and Kendick pipe. My dad and all his buddies tried to get that thing to work with that carb. We had zero luck. Changed the carb to a Mc49C carb and low and behold it was like a different motor. Easy to tune and fast runner. Won the 73 or 74 IKF divisionals, can't remember which, sorry. I know you are very good with Macs, but in my opinion, don't use the 49E carb.
all the best
Timmy
