Clutches used in Margay Gearboxes with oil bath housing?

Post by Bob Towarnicki » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:58 pm

Need some help. I have a Margay gearbox with the oil bath clutch housing. What clutches could be used for this application? Also curious when the oil bath mount was introduced? I have run the dry mount with a Max Torque but never saw the oil bath mount back in the day. Thanks, Bob

Rev Grip with a special drum. I have also seen some home made adaptions of Slip-O-Matic's.

Thanks Rob. Anyone know about what year the oil bath was introduced?

Bob

The oil bath housing for the Margay gearbox was first developed by Jim Akkerman I think in '67 or '68. I ran them back in the day with great sucess on my enduro karts using the two shoe Max Torque clutch with the heavy springs.

Andy,
Thanks for the information. I don't think the Max Torque has heavy springs and I have a heavy spring for the Rev Grip, so I think I'll try that.
