A couple years back, I ran a Legal WKA Stock 820 in our local Yamaha Can Class.
We weighed the same as the Yamaha entries, used the Stock 820 pipe and length, the Stock HL carb, etc.
The only thing that I changed was the crank.
I installed a taper shaft crank into the 820 with a Hartman Clutch.
We finished in the top 3 all year, winning many races.
The clutch lit the 820 up and couldn't work any better or more consistant.
Can an 820 beat a McCulloch?
Give it a try..
I did...
Rick

Yeah Steve, I run at Oreville with Carl and the guys - great bunch and a lot of fun though the racing is real and everyone tries their best. I know there are vintage afficionados who decry running vintage stuff in real races but we're not out there to destroy equipment. The best part is that the track runs both vintage rear engine and sidewinder races along with the regular show every weekend, so you can get a lot of seat time. Great to hear you will join us - look forward to meeting you!

Sorry Tom, I have two Bonbrights and both are on karts now waiting for the season to start so I don't have any for sale. I run one with a dry clutch and will be running the other for the first time this season with a wet clutch. After reading Rick's post about how well his worked with the wet clutch I'm looking forward it. It'll be the first time I ever run a WB with a wet clutch so the sorting out will be fun.

So sorry, Steve, to hear about your accident. I hope you're feeling better and that you heal fast. Can't believe Oreville starts it's regular season on 4/3 already, but it's a long season and I hope to see you there.

Steve, I run at Oreville. When you sign up you are in the "race". Don't worry about messing up peoples points. No one takes it that seriously. Don't get me wrong, the guys all run hard. But some of us are there for the ride. I run an Alley Kat with a stock 91, Reed Box Muffler and a vintage Max Torque clutch or an A Bone with a Mc 101MC, Gem Box muffler, and a Horstman Rev Grip. Same Karts I run at The Big One. I am usually looking at someone elses Kart in front of me, but there are usually some behind as well. In 15 laps I am usually lapped by someone running dual carbs, alcohol, wet clutch and pipe. But I can say I always finish the race, same engine for 4 years! Not sure I am making the first race but I will try. Regards, Bob
