Re: Vintage BURTO Racing Engine

True. Most of the early Italian engines were rotary valve, thus the round "Burto(n) cover/manifold. Some of the later 100cc REED valve engines, like the Atlas and Margay LMR, came with the bigger HR carb. I had fully modified LMR and Atlas I engines. They both came with the 34mm HR carb. I preferred...

Re: Vintage BURTO Racing Engine

K78 and K88 came with a manifold to fit a single HL Tillotson carb. Several aftermarket manufacturers made manifolds to fit the big HL or Mikuni 34mm carb to the 100cc Komets and other Italian rotary valve engines. They also made manifolds to fit two HL carbs to the same engines. Dual HL's are bette...

Re: New Member and New Finds

Travis, it looks like it may be a Putt-Nik Leo. They made a couple variations of the Leo. The karts are from Georgia. Putt-Nik brought a trailer full of '60 karts to our West Melbourne, FL shop in 1960, but we were Bug dealers, and didn't take the line on. The guy to PM on this site is: John McCorve...

Re: Thank You Mr. Weir

I will add my big thanks to those of REAR for Frank. He has been a great boost to American vintage karting, and is one good fellow. I was proud to work with Frank, along with Charlie Craibe, on the Vroom and British Karting magazines. Thank you, Frank! Ted

Just talked with Sue. Since they got Ron in the other facility, he's doing better. Thank goodness! Ted

Re: Thoughts and Prayers

Sue, and Ron's daughter Amy's ex husband, Darryl have been doing a wonderful job helping me keep up to date. We all miss Ron here. I'm used to him popping over here fairly frequently. The house is lonesome without him!

Photon Kart for sale

I am going to stop karting. My health is going downhill, and I no longer have help in getting my karts to the track. My Photon is one of the very nicest REAR engine karts in captivity. It looks great, handles like it's on rails and is very fast. Pruit Ginsberg and I designed the chassis together on ...

Re: Swappiing and shopping at TBO

Bob, no question that a Clinton can be made to run. Back in '59, we weren't yet doing any serious metal work on our engines. Maybe a bolt-on manifold or stuffer. It wasn't until the Jim Butler articles in KW magazine that Pop first tackled a port job on a Mac. I remember a guy named Netherton who go...

Re: GEM Mac mount

Lynn, I will call Charlie in WI and ask if he still has any. We ran them a lot back in '61. Ted
