Re: Cleaning blocks and aluminum parts
Hey, Chris. Find someone who baking soda blasts. I even had the paint soda blasted off my magnesium Homelite with absolutely no harm to the metal. It looks as-cast. It may be hard to find someone who does this. Eastwood sells some fairly inexpensive soda and multi media blasters. Good luck! Ted

Re: Karting jackets
I also got my "silver" nylon cordura jacket and horse collar from Clint at Go Kart Galaxy. It's not fancy, but I even wear it to work on brisk New Mexico mornings. Ted

Re: History of the 820?
820's weren't available until late '61/early '62. (3) 580's would still have been a cubic inch too big for GKCA or GPKCA rules in the olden days. I once ran (2) Mc6's plus an Mc20 for 16.4 C.I. - Barely Legal ! TJ

Re: New Castle REAR Classes
Hi, Dick! Kudos for Mark Dismore and his crew for providing R.E.A.R. classes! That's a quality facility, and I wish I could make the scene! P.S.: Has Doug Mayr managed to contact you? He's building a King Kart in your neck of the woods, and wanted to get in touch. He and his brother, Greg, used to r...

Re: REAR position on powder coat.
Hey, Darvin! Charlie Craibe and I had 3 karts at TBO Labor day, and they were all p'coated. I sure hope it's O.K., as Charlie and I don't want to have to give our "Biggie' awards back! Everything I have is powdercoated, as I don't have the patience to keep up with paint! The guidelines are generous,...

Rick Raetz
If anyone knows how to contact Rick Raetz, please let me know. Doug Mayr, who used to own Franklin Motorsports south of Milwaukee, is restoring a King Kart, and I would like to get the two of them together. Thanks! Ted

Re: Painted exhaust pipes
Hi, Brian! I've run them both ways dozens of times and cannot tell one whit of difference. A heavy coating like powdercoat might cut power due to a resonance damping effect, but I'd be willing to bet that with a product like VHT or BBQ paint in thin coats, you will never know it's there, except it l...

Re: Painted exhaust pipes
I used VHT brand high heat paint on expansion chambers for years. It is perfect. I used to paint a large area with yellow, blended into red, heat cure that in an old oven, then mask stars and spray the remainder flat black. After the star masks were removed, I heat cured the pipe again. After it coo...
