Re: Sensation Kart info?
Hi, Hal, and welcome to the site. If I had to guess, I'd wonder if the kart was made by the same people who made the Sensation lawn mowers. You might search some of the vintage mower sites and get info thru the back door. My Pop sold Sensation mowers in the '50's, too early for karts. The mowers wer...

Re: A bit of polite discourse on your favorite 2-stroke....
Harry, the blue engine is a vertical shaft Clinton, probably a 500 model. It's the vertical shaft version of the A-500, with 2.5 horses. Could be all bushing, could have a ball bearing on the blade end of the crank. Remember that with the piston port Power Products, that piston porting is not a majo...

Re: bug lighting
Matt, it was actually my mistake to say Bug Lightning, Bug really called the kart Lightning Bug. If you can find someone with some 1962/1963 Karting World magazines, Bug had large ads there for the kart. The later Lightning Bugs had the upright V-12 on them; the early versions had the V-11. There ar...

Re: thanks for info
Hey, Matt. I never saw a V-11 with a clutch. Euros all ran direct drive back then, as did a large percentage of Americans. If I remember, the V-11 had a yery short shaft extension. Does yours have a splined shaft? That's what I remember. That might make it difficult to find or make a sprocket. You m...

Re: looking for info
The Saetta V-11 deserves a really nice live axle chassis. Bug Wasp or Scorpion would do it justice, as Bug people were the early Saetta gurus. Faye ran this engine in Italy and did quite well with it. One of our central Florida guys put 2 of them on an Alpha, and they wouldn't get out of their own w...

Re: McCulloch Kart question
Dean, maybe it'd be better to use mild steel for the bumper. It's more yielding. More than one kart manufacturer in the olden days did just that, though it might have been more for cost savings.... Ted

Re: Need help identifying a couple of engines.
Harold, pull the manifold on the flat headed one and see if it's rotary valve. A careful measurement of the bore ought to narrow things down! From the measurements you listed, along with the uncertainity on the stroke, it looks like one of the big 7.88 C.I. units. I don't even know if those early un...

Re: Need help identifying a couple of engines.
Hi, Harold. The Deco Continental is a four stroke, and therefore not used on vintage karts. The members here might not be very familiar with it. You might try Googling on quarter midgets for info. The other engine....WOW! You may get lucky and have a REAR member recognise it. If it IS an early Homel...

Re: Carb question
Hi, Ralph. The answer is, yes, you can run the newer larger HL's on the 820. It's a big engine and it'll happily take the fuel. The HL's you have now will be fine as well! If you're running alcohol, I would suggest talking to John at EC Distributing, (615)446-6807. He is a carb guru, and can supply ...
