Not sure, but think it was because they could not prove there was a key in place. With the spline there was no choice in the matter. I've made a spacer washer and pushed the hub down past the spline a little to start in on the round part of the shaft. It tightens up and seemed to work fine. Don't ti...

Taper & key were outlawed. Azusa sells blank shafts so you can start from new.

I would try both the puller and wrench at the same time along with the heat after I had it under tension. Problem with the puller is pulling on the outside of the drum and your goal is the hub.

Did YOU put these clutches on? RH or LH threads? Key or no key? It's not a LH threaded on clutch is it? I never use locktite on the taper. I always lap my clutches on with lapping compound. "If" I put anything on a taper I use white chalk. You can use a 3/4" wrench behind the drum. BE VERY CAREFUL!!...
