Oil for DXL clutch

I'm running modern DXL clutches on my twin Mc101s. (Yes, I know, not vintage legal.) Looking for something better in clutch oil than I've found so far. I've used L&T , Steel Nytro, and Red Line clutch oils. The L&T oil works o.k., but is very thick when cold, and expensive. The Steel Nytro oil works...

Re: How do I remove Rev-Grip clutches?

Heat did the trick. On one clutch, I used a small puller, a small torch, and light prying with a big open end wrench on the sprocket side of the drum. On the other one I didn't even have to pry - the clutch just popped off from the puller tension after I put heat on it for a minute or so. For what i...

Re: Steering hub splines too loose

Clifford, Not sure where your comment about through bolts came from. Through bolts are not mentioned anywhere else in this thread. Through bolts and a 3/4" or 20 mm tubular shaft are the standard on modern karts, and I think they work fine. My steering shaft is 5/8" solid, and I think a hole for a 1...

Re: Steering hub splines too loose

Rob, do you know why taper and key were outlawed? Seems to me like a more secure setup.

Jeff, there's a snap ring groove below the splines, but it's in bad shape. I tried the snap ring, but it just got pushed out of the groove when I tightened the nut.

Steering hub splines too loose

The splines on the steering wheel hub and shaft on my Hartman are too loose. I put on a new hub and it was better at first, but after 5 or 10 laps it got loose again. Tightening the 1/2-20 nut does not help - it just gets loose again. There's really not much to tighten the nut against. I'm thinking ...

Re: How do I remove Rev-Grip clutches?

I put the clutches on. Shaft has L.H. threads and no keyway. I lapped the hub onto the shaft before Loctiting and tightening. Clutch hub is not threaded - separate nut is used.

I think I'll try heat and puller together.

Thanks for your help.

How do I remove Rev-Grip clutches?

I want to get the Rev-Grip clutches off my two Mc101s. I used Loctite 638 (green) on the taper, and a lot of torque on the nut. I tried a small 2 arm wheel puller, pulling on the flange of the clutch drum. I pulled as hard as I could without bending the drum, and gave a few firm taps on the puller s...

Painted exhaust pipes

I'm setting up a kart with twin Mc101s and RLV Blimp exhaust pipes. I'm thinking about painting the pipes black with engine paint - I've seen a few painted pipes on vintage karts, though never on a modern kart. It certainly would look better than bare heat-discolored steel, and it would spare me my ...
