Hard starting with Mikunis
Last Saturday I ran my Hartman with dual Mc101s at the Santa Maria track. The 101s have 34 mm Mikuni pumper carbs on them (one carb per engine). The engines/carbs ran really great - after I finally got them started - it took forever to get the carb pumps pumping. I had to go to a lot of trouble fill...

Re: Mc101 crankcase end cover gasket/sealant
Thanks for your help, guys.
There's a small amount of end play, even with no gasket, so I'll probably just skip the gasket and use Hylomar.
btw, since I started this thread, I found that Marmax Karts and Parts does sell the gasket.

Mc101 crankcase end cover gasket/sealant
I'm re-assembling one my my Mc101s. The crankcase end cover gasket did not survive the disassembly process, and I have not been able to locate a new gasket anywhere. I've been told you can just skip the gasket and use RTV or other good sealant here. What do you think about not using a gasket? If I f...

Which spark plug for Mc101MC / gas?
I recently switched my dual Mc101MC engines from alky to gas. I had Walbro BDC24 carbs for alky, and now I'm running Mikuni BM34 carbs with gas. It just occurred to me that maybe the best plug for gas is not the same as the best one for alky. What plug should I use for gas?

Re: Mc101 reed damage
My manifold has the "H" cast in.
I believe the reed with the fully rounded ends is the original type.
When I dressed the new reeds, I only used 400 grit emery paper. Makes sense that 800 or 1000 grit would be better.
Are steel reeds ever used on these engines?

Mc101 reed damage
The reeds in my Mc101 are getting badly chipped for some reason. I understand this is not unusual, but the last set of reeds lasted less than an hour. The second photo below is an old reed that lasted a number of hours - seemed reasonable to me. This reed was .023" thick. The first and last photos s...
