It is common for McCulloch rods to have the small end not on center. The Big ends also are not always exactly symmetrical. What counts is that the diameters, center to center length, and straightness. Below is a photo of the small end of a McC rod that shows that is is not uncommon to have the holes...

1956 Dodge "ROYAL BLUE POLY." DOE-11371-DAL Ditzler Lacquer.

This is not longer avaialble. The modern equal is:

Sherwin-Williams 1973 Chevy Dk Brt Blue Met (Code 508) FL-3400,
(or 55327, or 5558)

The S-W FL-3400 appears to be an exact match for the origional paint on my 67-69 Bug Sprint.
