I was at a swap meet when Bob Watkins was looking at that kart. Believe me he brought it back to life & did a fantastic job.

All the nubs you have sticking out where you sawed them off. Make sure kart is steady & clamped down. Use a grinder to get close. If I were you I would look for another kart or two depending on the condition. Then the sum of all the pieces added together should add up to something that would be worth the work, time & financial investment so in the end you end up with what you want.

Just guessing but I doubt if your plates are vented to atmosphere from the top side of the diaphragm. Not relieving the pressure it shoves the fuel into the venturi where it floods the engine. 1. Were these external pulse line carbs when new?

2. You have yet to run this under load correct?
