Re: Merry Christmas and...
Bobby and Rob and Dick, enjoy the holiday. Ron and Sue Cubel are dropping over this morning for a minute, but other than that, I won't be seeing anyone. I hope we'll all see each other again in better days! Ted

Re: Bit of a twist to it ....
That weird outboard I converted was bigger than 7 cubes, but had integral head, and ports like an E-65. It's been so long that I don't remember what we did with the PTO end of the crank. I ran it a few weekends on the dead axle Bug Custom, and someone bought it from me. I remember having a heck of a...

Re: Bit of a twist to it ....
No, Terry, it wasn't a kart Clinton. It was an outboard, over 7 cubes. A monster. I've seen the 502's before. I used to have a 7" outboard Clinton I converted in Pop's shop. It ran O.K., but Thorin's was way faster. Ted

Re: Bit of a twist to it ....
Terry, Bob, what's the guy's name out in Cali, the Simplex guru? He has a monster Clinton outboard on a Simplex kart. I saw it at Bakersfield in '11 or '12. I seem to remember he even had an expansion chamber on the beast. It was respectably fast-and noisy. I had Bakersfield pix, but lost all of the...

Re: Atention Bug fans - did early bugs have scrub brakes?
Terry, all Bugs had steel wheels when we bought ours. We had a stock of Moon Discs, so I put them on both my and Pop's karts. They were very easy to dent and scratch. Pop had Tom Pierson send two more singles for our dealership, both no paint or upholstery along with mine, which was black and had th...

Re: Atention Bug fans - did early bugs have scrub brakes?
Terry, except for the drum brakes, and the fact that my first Bug had no sissy rails, that kart is like mine. Mine had the simple steering wheel. Bug was not offering sissy rails when mine was built. When Pop's dual A400 kart came in, it had the 6" steel rear wheels like all dual Bugs had then, but ...

Re: Atention Bug fans - did early bugs have scrub brakes?
Terry, no scrub-on-tire brakes to the best of my knowledge. They actually DID have scrub brakes if you count the first production Bugs with the "scrub-on-sprocket" brake. My fairly early '58 had a piece of lining riveted onto a flat square piece of steel, welded to a piece of about 1/2" square steel...

Re: Now where are those knobby tires ?
Yeah, Bob, I remember! I got fed up with the snow and the political issues in Wisconsin. Where'd I end up? Illinois, Indiana, Idaho, Washington..... Around here, if the temp goes below 60, folks are wearing jackets and flannel shirts! Ted

Hey, Bobby! You oughta be here. I've been working on Charlie's 700. Garage door open, tee shirt. Sun is a bit pale, but is still shining.
