Reporting from The Big One!!!

Very large turn out at The Big One this year, all the pit spaces and the parking lot were pretty much full again. Rob Voska and Bob Kurkowski put on another great event with the earliest era of American made karts and motors in attendance. Saturday was hot, well, really hot!!! ... most people were o...

Re: Period Correct Tire Widths, Engines and Rules

FYI - the VKA has moved to restrict tires on rear engine karts starting in 2012. Below are the VKA approved tires for rear engine karts for the 2012 season. Most of these tires are OK for TBO also, but I believe the Vintage Speed 11x3.50-5, 11x4.50-5, 11x6.00-5 have not been REAR approved yet? Rob? ...

Re: Full Circle Crank for a WB820; Worthwhile?

Doug, The full circle crank is one of those incremental performance improvements, the crank by itself is not going to be one of those "wow" what a difference deals. The highest benefit is with motors running a muffler, since the crankcase pumping is the main action scavenging the engine (expansion c...

Re: Port timing anyone

if anyone wants to convert port heights into degrees .. you will need to know how to convert piston travel into crank rotation degrees. I attached a conversion table I made for the McCulloch kart racing engines. You can use this chart several ways, zero degrees can be assumed to be TDC or BDC. Also,...

Re: my tire observations

David, What kind of 11x6.00x5 rear tire did you try ... sounds like it was too hard, or you had too much tire pressure, or the rear end was too wide. The Cheetah originally came with 4.50 wide Goodyears on the rear ... I raced mine that way for a year back in 1974 ... then everyone switched to the 6...

Re: McCULLOCH engie help

The 1-41 saw motor is very similar to the 1-51 motor that I built into a look a-like MC5 kart motor in the videos below. The 1-41 should have a detachable head, which allows you to easily bore/hone it, and to easily put in a longer stroke crank. I put a MC6 crank in this motor ... but I do think it ...

Re: Hard starting with Mikunis

..when you say it is not pumping, do you mean it isn't pulling the fuel up the fuel line (the air in the line isn't getting sucked into the carb, with the fuel coming in behind it)? ... or are you saying the fuel line is full of fuel, but little or none is going from the carb into the carb throat? J...

boring cylinders on a lathe ??

... has anyone tried boring a vintage kart cylinder (Mac or other) on a lathe? I was going to give this a shot, since I picked up a 1 1/4" diameter boring bar the other day for cheap. I figure that it doesn't have to be perfect, since I can straighten and true up the bore with my line hone. That is ...
