Just a side note. I had two vintage Japanese cylinder heads Vapor blasted and they came back looking NOS brand new.
The results truly were amazing!

That brings up a question I have been thinking about. Were the turbine wheels ever painted from the factory or were they left raw aluminum?

I too own a Mcculloch R1. I'm surprised to hear you have a frame number on yours. From my understanding, most of them do not. Mine doen't either. Post some pictures. If you do not know how, I can post them for you. PM me.
