Re: need help with my west bend i just got

Hey Dave, Wiseco made a 5 port piston that had .024" rings. I have no idea where you might find one. As you probably know the 3 port and 5 port use different pistons. Go Power made a nice dual carb intake for these critters and it does make a differece. Rickard Peck and I were talking about West Ben...

Re: Mc5 Carb ID

I remember seeing an HL 63 on an Mc 5 a buddy had. I think we also had one on a dual carb Mc 6 with the Mac carb over the main intake ports, and the HL 63 over the third port (without reeds).

Re: WB 580 5PORT ON ALCOHOL?

You are correct about alcohol having distinct advatages. The down side is that it does not store well, (absorbs water). Give terrible mileage (uses about twice as much per mile). Requires oil that is made specificly to mix with alcohol. It must also be flushed out of the engine after each use to pre...

Re: WB 580 5PORT ON ALCOHOL?

Dan, Everything Ted says is correct. The 580 can be made to run faster, but fast is relative. We raced one of the fastest 580's I've ever seen in the early 60's. It would run with a stock McCuloch 7, but was straining to do so. A Simplex is not exactly the ligtest Kart out there (had one) and the de...

Re: race history

It's not even an A-Bone, just a 300 fun kart. You do get some swell Manco wheels with it though. Does anybody else wonder if there is a huge pile of rare wheels and Chilton tanks somewhere? They seem to be the two items that every yahoo who got an old racing Kart had to get rid of.

Re: Is this what this is about?

If I can't dump a couple grand into a 101 so I can show the world how fast it can go before it grenades, am I a poser? For the guys who want to do that, have at it. I had those days in the 60's.
